Construction Work to Close Route 501 for One Week in Lebanon County
-- Closure is necessary for contractor to replace drainage cross pipes. --
Harrisburg, PA – Starting Monday, July 11, Route 501 will be closed for seven days between Elco Drive and Hergelrode Drive in Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County. Traffic will be detoured around the road closure by way of Elco Drive, Weavertown Road, and Richland Avenue. The road closure is necessary so that construction crews can replace three deteriorated corrugated metal drainage cross pipes with a single concrete elliptical pipe under the highway.
This work is part of an overall construction project that got underway this week to repair and resurface 7.8 miles of Route 501 between Route 419 in Heidelberg Township and Rose Bud Road in Jackson Township. PennDOT has contracted with Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Annville, Pennsylvania, to conduct this highway improvement project at a cost of $3,197,785. A little more than 9,300 vehicles travel on this portion of Route 501 on a daily basis. For this work, motorists may encounter single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers assisting them through the work area. Motorists are asked to be alert to this work, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work areas – for their safety as well as for the safety of the construction crews. The overall project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August in 2017.
